In the event of an accident, renters must first ensure everyone's safety, immediately contact the police (110), and then notify our office.
Insurance & Compensation Coverage
When renting a vehicle, insurance and compensation coverage is provided for accidents where the renter or authorized driver becomes legally liable, subject to the terms of the rental agreement. Coverage includes unlimited bodily injury liability (including compulsory automobile liability insurance) for injuries, medical expenses, hospitalization costs, disability, or death caused to third parties.
It also includes unlimited property damage liability per accident for damage to other vehicles, buildings, fences, guardrails, utility poles, and other property. In addition, personal accident coverage of up to ¥30,000,000 is provided for drivers and passengers, covering injuries, medical expenses, and hospitalization costs.
Insurance may not apply in cases such as driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid licence, allowing an unauthorized driver to operate the vehicle, failing to report the accident to the police, or intentional damage. Full details and exclusions are contained in the rental agreement.
Non-Operation Charge (NOC) & Accessory Damage
If a rental vehicle is damaged during the rental period, a Non-Operation Charge (NOC) may apply to compensate for the loss of business while the vehicle is unavailable for rental, regardless of who is at fault.
If the vehicle remains drivable and is returned to the agreed return location, the NOC is ¥100,000. If the vehicle is not drivable and cannot be returned to the agreed location, the NOC is ¥150,000. These charges are tax-exempt and are not covered by insurance. Renters are also responsible for rental accessories and equipment.
If an accessory such as a navigation system, child seat, ETC device, charging cable, or other rental equipment is lost or damaged beyond repair, the renter will be charged 100% of the replacement cost.
If an accessory is damaged but repairable, the renter will be charged 100% of the repair cost. These charges apply separately from any insurance coverage or NOC charges.
